Piano Sea / Sea Piano in Zadar, Croatia, Wave music which is played by the sea

Piano sea (orgulje morske) is located on the shores of Zadar, Croatia, and a pipe organ in the world's first music played by the sea. Simple and elegant, carved in white stone, was built on the pier. Underneath, there are 35 tube set to music with whistle openings on the sidewalk. Movement of the sea pushes air through, and - depending on the size and speed of the wave - musical chords are played. Waves create random harmonic sounds.

Acoustical and architectural masterpiece was created by expert Dalmatian stone carvers and architect Nikola Basic in 2005, which recently received the European Prize for Urban Public Space for this project. Many tourists come to listen to this unique air phone, and enjoy an unforgettable sunset with views of nearby islands. Director Alfred Hitchcock's famous saying that a beautiful sunset in the world can be seen from this place precisely in the Zadar quay. That is how he described after his visit to Zadar, a visit he remembered all his life by meeting the sun sets and the sea.

Piano of the Sea (orgulje morske) is a natural musical instrument, 70m long with 35 pipe organ built under the concrete. Pipe music is so that sea water and wind movements produce musical sounds are heard by passers-by so as to achieve communication with nature and promote the unity of architecture and environment. As sea forces and energies are unpredictable in terms of tides and winds, this organ offers a concert of music that never ends, many variations in which the perpetrator is nature itself.

In Croatia the prevailing musical tradition is to sing four-man sound spontaneous, with melodies and chords according to the diatonic scale. 5 pipe music is set for each part are arranged in a distance of 1.5 meters. A listener, standing or sitting at selected points on scalinade, should be able to hear a 5 to 7 adjustable pipe music playing on their natural music. So, the whole five-pipe that is suitable for a musical chord. Residents are very proud of Zadar natural musical organ that is driven by the first wave ever built. This installation, truly unique in the world, designed to let people enjoy the point where the medieval town of Zadar including the Adriatic Sea.
