Well, the list of builders are panicking now ... especially those who use Aweber, which just happens to be one of the largest auto service on the planet, if not the greatest. So what exactly happened? Why are customers being dropped like Hot Potatoes? Well, read this article and you'll find out. You'll also learn what to do to make your list from being a blow to kingdom come.
Essentially what happened was this. Shipping rates are going down for the service. According to the Aweber, it's an ISP wide problem and they are looking into it. But you can bet that you already know that the reason for all the spam complaints. And why there are so many spam complaints? Because the real Jack asses. This is the only way to put it and be anywhere near accurate. To give you an example of what the Jackasses, the other day I got an email from one of my Aweber subscription that essentially told me the subject line that I sell. When I open it, it was nothing but a sales pitch.
If you are as brain dead as a rock, you know that it is a deceptive subject line, and against the Can Spam Act of 2003. You actually committed the crime. And if the Feds wanted to make a case out of it, they could. But Aweber does not wait for Feds to get involved. They are being proactive about it. Customers who use their services and send deceptive subject lines dropped ... period. Say goodbye to your precious list. But that's not all. Aweber has also issued a warning about the relevance. If you have a list that is about how to make money with blue widgets, it's better to keep the content relevant for blue widgets and nothing else. If you're going to make sales pitches to the list, the better up front about the squeeze page.
Okay, so how do you keep from getting your list yanked out from under you? Well, for starters, make sure that the squeeze page where they opt in, they tell you what they can expect from you when they hand you an e-mail. Full Disclosure will be required if you want to have any chance of maintaining your list. You also want to ensure that your subscribers your information will never be shared with anyone. And of course, when you do your e-mail ... No deceptive subject lines.
Aweber means business. If you violate any of these things, I expect that the list be yanked out from under you.
You have been warned.
to your success,
Steven Wagenheim
